The Affair is set six months before the opening of The Killing Floor, when Reacher is still a major in the military police. When a beautiful local woman is murdered in a small town with a big army base, Jack is sent in to determine whether the killer is a soldier or a civilian. During the course of his investigation he discovers that this is not the first beautiful girl to be killed in Carter Crossing, Mississippi. As the tension between the townspeople and the army mounts, Reacher has to make some very important decisions – and fast.
