The love affair between Afrikaans poet Ingrid Jonker and Andre Brink, two pivotal South African authors, was recorded in a series of letters to each other, which Brink kept in his study. Just three months before his death, in February 2015, he released the letters for publication. Jonker’s last letter is dated April 1965 and three months later she drowned herself in Three Anchor Bay. Poignant and powerful, this is arguably one of this season’s most exciting releases.
