The story of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children continues in this fourth book in the series. This time a group of peculiars with Miss Peregrine and Emma accompany Jacob to the modern age in America. They have to try to adapt and fit in so they can remain undetected, and Riggs cleverly uses this as an opportunity to further evolve their characters. They discover the peculiar universe is expanded through the use of American time loops, and they find a parallel world – reminiscent of the Wild West which, interestingly, too, has issues surrounding racism and lawlessness they begin realise are echoes of their own world. Riggs’ books are a delight – far from ‘dark’ they are intelligent, educative, thought-provoking and downright fun.
