Tom is the single father of Hannah, who was diagnosed with a heart condition when she was five-years-old. She is about to turn sixteen and the affects of her disease are such that her heart could stop at any moment. Tom is the manager of the local theatre and every year he has staged a special show for her birthday. But the council is keen to tear the old place down to make space for more housing. They soon realise how much the theatre is an integral part of them, their source of strength, joy and close friendships. The narrative is told from both points of view: Hannah is determined that her father meets someone special to fill her place, and Tom is determined to keep the magic alive in her life. Beautifully written, gorgeous character descriptions – a delightful story that will make you laugh and cry.
