Witnessing is a harrowing, yet inspiring account of a young Rwandan boy, Pie-Pacifique Kabalira-Uwase, who witnessed genocide, had to flee his home in search of a better future and went on to became a successful businessman in South Africa.

He recounts his colourful childhood in Rwanda as well as the the trauma of surviving the Rwandan genocide. For his safety and future, he prepares to flee to Canada but somehow ends up in South Africa, where he works as a car guard who studies in between shifts in the hopes of going to University. Following many pitfalls, he eventually enrols and is granted a Mandela-Rhodes Scholarship.
